What is hook cross?

The hook cross is a knitting technique that involves crossing two stitches in a specific way to create a decorative pattern. It is often used to create cables or other textured designs in knitted garments and accessories. To create a hook cross, the knitter takes the first stitch on their cable needle and holds it to the back of their work, and then knits the following stitch. Next, the knitter shifts the needle to the front of the work, picks up the held stitch with the cable needle, and then knits it. This creates a twisted stitch that crosses over the stitch next to it, giving the fabric a raised and textured appearance. Hook crosses can be made in various sizes and combinations to create different patterns, and are commonly used in sweater sleeves, hats, and scarves.
